Dordrecht SA had two groups of visitors from Dordrecht Zuid-Holland november 2010.
Sonja van Oeveren, one of the coordinators for various projects, arrived together with Thirza Monster. They are involved in the gardening project, whereby 500 poor of the poorest are getting seeds, which is being sponsored by Netherlands. The beneficiaries then has to plant and care for the seedlings, and then have their own vegetables. This is one of the best projects, as the health status of the people have improving.
Presently the foundation is trying to get 500 families in Netherlands to sponsor 20 Euro a year to support the families involved. This is the second year of the project. Thirza Monster have been going around with the local coordinators of the gardening committee, to do photos of the families. These photos will be updated on a regular basis to show the progress of the gardens to their sponsors in Netherlands.
Sonja and Thirza also visited various other projects, in the field of health care and school twinning for instance. Another good project is the field band, whereby about 50 disadvantaged children are being taught to play music instruments. This is to keep them off the streets and also to train them in life skills. The project started in July, and in this very short time, the children really proved to be very talented with the instruments. Only two kids had any musical background. The local person in charge of the project is Owen Patu. He (left on the photo) is being assisted by Phumezo Hlanganise and Zoliswa Biko. These young people accompanied the visitors.
Gea Davids, Dick Reynders and Tom Lieshout are very involved in the housing project, which is also aiming at development and upliftment of the community. The support of the goverment, in Dordrecht SA as well as in Dordrecht South Holland, is indispensable here.
